VICTIM OF FATE

01) HOW ALL STARTED?

The idea came from years ago, I (Daniel Zul) played in a few bands before. But I wanted to incorporate different sounds in a band, not the straight metal vibe. A huge variety of sounds can be also heavy and intense. Also the other members had played in bands before, so we just came up with the feeling of making some noise and mix our musical tastes and experience.

02) HOW DO YOU DEFINE THE SOUND OF VICTIM OF FATE?

I think the sound can be defined at times as some kind of Speed Metal, but we're not attached to only one genre, we're trying to develop an eclectic sound of different kinds of music. Of course, heavy metal is the cornerstone of our music.

03) HOW IS THE ACTUAL LINE UP?
Nowadays, the band is conformed by Adan Perales (Bass Guitar), Mario Barajas (Drums) and myself Daniel Zul (Guitars/Vocals).

04) TELL US ABOUT THE WORKS ALREADY LAUNCHED?

We already have 2 EP albums out for listening in digital media. "Impertinence Arise" released in 2018 and "Rot 'em Roll" released last year, and we're also working nowadays in a 2-Song-Single-Album to be released next month (we hope) called "Salvation's Calling".
"Impertinence Arise" is a fully speed charged 3 songs album, you can rapidly identify our Thrashy/Hardcore Punk influences right there.
"Rot 'em Roll" is a little more 80's speed metal oriented album, but also fully charged with throat sore vocals, and a quasi-jazzy song to keep it steady for a second round of rawness. You can listen to our 2 EPs on Spotify, BandCamp or YouTube for free.

05) WHAT IS YOUR VISION OF METAL IN THE 80'S AND 2000 YEARS?

Heavy Metal has definitely evolved through the years, scrambling sounds from different backgrounds and ambients, so you can say with NWOBHM or the Thrash Metal movement in the early 80's taking elements of Punk Rock music, and also the late 90s so called Nu Metal movement mixing Urban music (such as hiphop and stuff) to heavy detuned sounds. I think they both (just as example) proved they were ready to take the step forward and not to even care about the traditional "rules" of what Heavy Metal should be. They succeded musically and financially, I believe it felt right for them. With all this there's stuff to learn, such as not to be afraid to be against the "Heavy Music Status Quo" if it feels right, go and do it. Anything goes as long as it rocks!

06) TELL US NOW YOUR FAVE BANDS AND ALBUNS?

We all have different tastes on music, we should tell bands like Motorhead, Dead Kennedys, Helloween, Celtic Frost had inspired the vibe of the band. But also Jamaican music (Ska, Rocksteady), post punk, new wave, jazz and some popular music had made an impact in each of us.

07) TELL US MORE ABOUT THE ALBUM: ROTÉM ROLL!!!

Well, "Rot 'em Roll EP" album was written shortly after the release of our first EP, has some kind of the same vibe, a little more well produced, but the main idea was to keep it "low-fi" in the image and sound. The result were 4 songs ready to be played at max volume and 1 extra song to take a breath and also to have fun ourselves and explore different fields in music. First song "Fantasy is Gone" is a speed metal riff oriented theme, lyrics talk about how institutions have controlled our spiritual necessities since ancient times. "The Fate" a hardcore punk inspired song, it's all about to make our statement (We're VOF, we're here to make a mess haha). "Sunday Walk in Huinala" a soft song to chill, take off your shoes, swing your head and get ready for the next charge of heavy noise, the name was inspired by a place near the hood, pretty spot. "Open Veins" a song inspired in Eduardo Galeano's essay called 'Las Venas Abiertas de America Latina', how the ambitions and creepling desires of the capitalism had shattered the land and population of our continent for centuries and how it still to be relevant nowadays just in a different and desguised way. Last song "Rot 'em Roll" another Rock and Roll statement of giving your life to the Power of music, the lust and pleasure of it.

08) WHAT´S THE MESSAGE BEHIND YOUR LYRICS?

We ain't taken an specific topic to write about. All of our lyrics I think can be described as social themes and fantasy writings; our worldview of how things work in our own society and the context behind that, the horror of human self nature, but also lyrics about the Rock & Rock fantasy, you know, drink that bottle, snort that line, party hard and forget just a little this world can be cruel at times and celebrate life itself.

09) FUTURE PLANS?

We have plans of releasing a single song in June (2020), another EP album about winter time this year, currently you know it's difficult to play live because of the Covid restrictions, but maybe later do some couple shows here in Monterrey and some mexican cities. And start to record a Full Lenght in early 2021, and of course more live shows to keep the rocking to the max.

10) THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT. ANY LAST COMMENTS?

As long as it feels right... play it fucking loud!
